“Best part-time doctoral program for managers who require flexibility.”

In conversation with SIBE DBA candidate Amin Yousif

Amin Yousif began his DBA journey in 2020 while working as Director Channel & Distribution EMEA at Ceragon Networks. In August 2024, he successfully completed his viva, the defense of his doctoral research on the role of the drivers of team performance during mandatory telework in the UAE. His dedication to advancing both his academic and professional careers simultaneously highlights the unique opportunities provided by SIBE’s DBA program.

Bachelor’s program: Business Administration
Master’s program: International Management
Doctoral program: Doctor of Business Administration (DBA)
DBA completion year: 2024

Why did you choose the SIBE DBA program?

Generally, I was looking for a part-time doctoral program, as I did not want to leave my job. SIBE’s DBA program was by far the most appealing option to me. The structure of the program is very flexible, which was a mandatory requirement due to my busy work-schedule and frequent travel. I could largely complete all my assignments, course works, and research online.  Both SIBE and their cooperation partner, Edinburgh Business School (EBS) of Heriot-Watt University, have a long tradition of conducting doctoral programs online. Furthermore, SIBE’s DBA program can be completed in three years while at the same time keeping high academic standards.

What was your dissertation topic and why?

My research topic was about drivers of team performance during mandatory telework in the UAE. During the Covid-19 pandemic, lockdowns were applied and companies worldwide had to cope with sending their staff to telework (where this was possible). Mandatory telework is a gap in knowledge. Addressing it can help companies to steer more successfully through times of health or other crises when mandatory telework is applied.

How did you benefit from the SIBE DBA program? (E.g. supervision, expansion of personal network, etc.)

Communicating with my supervisor was extremely smooth and fast. I received feedback on my work in a very timely and constructive manner. This helped me to achieve the necessary progress along the program milestones. I also benefited from a large network of SIBE and other EBS doctoral students.

What do you remember most fondly during your DBA?

I enjoyed the doctoral conference in Edinburgh very much.

Is there anything you would like to pass on to future doctoral students?

SIBE’s DBA is, in my view, the best part-time doctoral program for managers who require flexibility. Of course, the degree must be earned by everyone themselves. It is hard work and requires a lot of discipline, but it is more than worth the effort if you aspire to shape your personality, sharpen your intellect and become a different person. It is not worth it if you are just after the doctoral title…
